Basketball Victoria is inviting athletes to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the 2024 Victorian Under 20 Womens and Mens State teams.
Athletes must meet the below criteria:
- Eligible players must be born in the year 2006 or 2005, and not turn 20 years of age prior to 31 December 2024
- They must be participating in a competition being conducted by Basketball Victoria
- Athletic ability, size and skill levels that are likely to achieve success at a National Championship
- Ability to fill a role required by the coaching staff to help the team achieve success
- Ability to fit into the team’s ethos based on skill, compatibility, personality and character of the player
The 2024 Australian Under 20 Championships will be held on 04-11 February 2024 with the location to be announced shortly.
Successful athletes for selection consideration will be notified (via email from Basketball Victoria).
Trial Dates commence Sunday 01 October 2023. (Times and locations will be emailed to successful short listed applicants).
Please note there will be an Under 20 Womens State team and an Under 20 Mens State teams selected. There will then be a development team for each State team selected, being Womens Victoria NAVY and Mens Victoria NAVY.
Victoria Under 20 Women and Men will be selected first with up to five (5) emergencies being named for this team, emergency players are not automatic or guaranteed selection for the Victoria Navy team.
Under 20 Victoria Navy Women and Under 20 Victoria Navy Men will be selected after the State team and emergencies have been selected. Criteria for selection into the Victoria Navy team is:
- Long Term Athletic Development (and priority for those who are bottom age)
- Identified Victorian athletes that have not partaken in a National Championship before
- Will benefit greatly from the opportunity to play at a National Championship
- Contributes to a healthy balance of Country and Metropolitan athletes
