All AbilitiesBasketball Victoria provides many participatory opportunities for people with an intellectual disability, through playing, coaching, officiating, volunteering and administrative support. |
Extensive collaboration with the specialist school system over a number of years has strengthened the participation pathway creating greater opportunities for students with an intellectual disability. Available programs, including those directly at association level, all contribute to individual self-development and achievement. They also help to create healthier and more active and confident people through social connectivity with other basketballers, including those in the mainstream system. There are 30+ All Abilities Programs throughout Victoria, majority of these programs are open to all ages and focus on skill development with a modified game at the end of each session. There are 6 All Abilities Competitions throughout Melbourne. |
High Performance Pathway - Ivor Burge ChampionshipsAthletes with an intellectual disability are also eligible to nominate for our Victorian Ivor Burge teams, with a men’s and women’s team participating each year in the Australian Ivor Burge Championships.
