Victoria’s rising basketball stars delivered an outstanding week in Brisbane last week, with four of five teams securing podium finishes at the 2026 Foot Locker Under 18 and National Junior Wheelchair Championships.
In a powerful showcase of talent, determination and pride, Victoria’s teams proved themselves on the national stage, and then some.
The Vic Metro Men and Vic Metro Women led the charge, both claiming gold in dominant fashion. For the Metro Women, the victory marked back-to-back national titles, underlining their consistency and strength at the elite junior level. The Metro Men capped off a superb campaign with a championship performance of their own.

The Vic Country Men added to the medal tally with a hard-fought bronze, demonstrating grit and resilience across the tournament. The National Junior Wheelchair team delivered a fantastic silver medal performance, highlighting both skill and determination in a fiercely competitive field.

Victorian athletes wore the state colours with pride, playing with intensity, teamwork and a clear sense of purpose. From clutch moments to composed finishes, it was a week where the depth of talent in the Basketball Victoria system was on full display.

Basketball Victoria General Manager – Pathways, Dom Linossier, praised the collective effort and the strength of the development system behind the success.
“The week really highlighted the depth of our Victoria pathway program and the calibre of athletes coming through. To see our teams perform at this level speaks volumes about the work being done across the state, from the grassroots of our Associations through to high performance programs that underpin the success of these state teams.
Our athletes not only proved themselves on the national stage, but they truly shone. The way the represented Victoria, themselves, their families and their Associations, standing on the shoulders of those who have come before them, is something we are incredibly proud of.”
The results reinforce Victoria’s position as a powerhouse in Australian junior basketball, with a pipeline of athletes ready to step up and make their mark at higher levels.
With gold, silver and bronze medals secured, and countless standout performances, the future of Victorian basketball looks brighter than ever.
