Melbourne, VICTORIA – Basketball Victoria is deeply saddened by the passing of Remy Grogan, a much-loved member of Victoria’s wheelchair basketball community, who passed away peacefully at just 18 years of age.
Remy was vibrant, funny, creative and fiercely independent. A dearly loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, she brought kindness and joy to the people around her and treasured time with her family and friends.
Diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma at 15, Remy faced demanding treatment with extraordinary courage, strength and determination. After completing her initial treatment, she discovered wheelchair basketball through the Play On program and embraced a new passion.
Her dedication and talent led to an invitation to join the Victorian Wheelchair Basketball State Development Program. She went on to represent Victoria as a State Team member in 2025 and 2026, and was selected for the inaugural Victoria Wonders team in the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League in 2025. That same year, she also attended the Australian Women’s Wheelchair Pathway Camp.
These achievements hold a special place in Remy’s story and in the Victorian wheelchair basketball community she became part of.
Away from the court, Remy loved movies, music, concerts, books and art, and was a passionate Carlton supporter. Her love of filmmaking inspired her dream of working in the film industry. After completing Year 12 at Catholic College Sale, she earned a place at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney, a wonderful achievement that reflected her creativity and ambition.
Remy’s life was far too short, but it was filled with love and dreams that were uniquely hers. We honour the young woman she was, her contribution to wheelchair basketball and the place she will always hold in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Basketball Victoria extends its heartfelt condolences to Remy’s parents Greg and Traci, brother Nayte and sister Charlotte. To her extended family, friends, teammates and coaches, and to the Play On and wider wheelchair basketball communities. Our thoughts are with everyone mourning her loss.
Rest peacefully Remy.
