The future of basketball in Yarrawonga has taken an exciting step forward, with the first sod recently turned on the new two-court home of the Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball Association.
More than a decade in the making, the project is the result of strong community advocacy, strategic planning and collaboration between the Association, Moira Shire Council, Basketball Victoria and government partners, all working towards a shared vision of creating greater opportunities for basketball participation in the region.

The new fully compliant facility will provide increased capacity for local competitions, programs and events across multiple sports, while supporting the continued growth of basketball across the Yarrawonga-Mulwala community for years to come.
Representatives from the Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball Association, Moira Shire Council, Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Victorian Government joined together to mark the milestone, recognising the dedication of the volunteers and community leaders who helped bring the project from vision to reality.

Basketball Victoria General Manager Member’s, Participation and Growth, David Huxtable said the sod turning was the culmination of years of dedication and advocacy from the local basketball community.
"Projects like this don't happen overnight. They are built through years of advocacy, planning and partnership," Huxtable said.
"The Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball Association has shown tremendous commitment to creating opportunities for its community, and this milestone is a credit to the volunteers and leaders who never lost sight of their vision.
"We're proud to have supported that journey alongside Moira Shire Council and government partners, and we're excited to see the positive impact this facility will have on basketball and the broader community for years to come."
Once completed, the stadium will provide a modern, accessible basketball venue that will serve players, coaches, officials and volunteers across the region for generations to come.
The milestone reflects the dedication of countless volunteers, committee members and project partners who have contributed to bringing this long-held vision to life.
