The two tournaments that makeup the U16 and U18 Junior Country Championships (JCC), once again brought together the best in country basketball from right across Victoria.
From our largest regional associations of Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong to smaller townships and associations of Meeniyan, Tatura and Nhill; our basketball community came from far and wide to Bendigo (Divisions 1 & 2) and the Greater Shepparton region (Divisions 3-6) to compete and celebrate Victorian country basketball.
Whilst players were naturally a highlight, being guided and mentored by both experienced and developing team coaches and support staff, the JCC events also represents opportunities for others. The JCC’s present an opportunity in development and representation for our referees who received dedicated referee coaching and direction every game throughout both events, taking with them vital education to assist them both in their home associations, but also future state events.
We’d like to thank the City of Greater Bendigo and Greater Shepparton City Council for their support as key partners of Basketball Victoria’s Junior Country Championships. Further to this, we’d like to extend our thanks to Red Energy Arena, Bendigo Basketball Association and Shepparton Basketball Association, whom without the support of their volunteers and support staff, the events couldn’t have been played as seamlessly as they were.
The Junior Country Championships represent some of the very best things that make our sport terrific. We see people coming together, competing at their best and representing their local association against others from right across the state.
Thank you once again to everyone who attended, competed and participated within these editions of the Junior Country Championships. With two more 3-day Junior Country Championship event still ahead, for each the U12’s and U14’s in Bendigo and Ballarat, there’s a lot more in store for our country associations!
