The Australian Boomers return to Melbourne on February 23 and 26, 2023, as they round out their FIBA World Cup qualifying campaign. It will be your last chance to witness one of the strongest Aussie teams ever seen as they take on Bahrain and Kazakhstan.
Both games will be played at the iconic State Basketball Centre (Wantirna South) and even though the Boomers have already qualified with nine straight wins, the team is excited to be able to play the last two games in front of a vocal Victorian crowd.
The Boomers will have a full list available as the NBL takes a season break to allow the Boomers to select the strongest team for the games. It will include co captains, Mitch McCarron and Nick Kay who, alongside Victoria’s own DJ Vasilijevic, will be all vying for that elusive spot on the 2023 FIBA World Cup Boomers team.
Australia has had some convincing wins on the road to qualify for the World Cup, to be held in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines in August 2023.

“We all started our basketball careers in these stadiums, it’s where we all learnt to play and dream of one day wearing the green and gold. We want to bring the Boomers back to the fans it’s always special to play in front of true basketball fans. We have already qualified but the pressure isn’t off, each player wants to secure a spot at the World Cup in 2023 so the fans can look forward to some great basketball,” said Smith.
