Female ParticipationBasketball Victoria aims to create an environment where women and girls have an equitable opportunity to engage in basketball.Developing a strategic focus across the entire business to optimise engagement and outcomes for women and girls is a priority for Basketball Victoria and will be developed and driven by the Women’s and Girls working group. The group led by Basketball Victoria staff will include representatives from associations, coaches, officials, administrators and key sector stakeholders focused on identifying and developing key projects and programs to support outcomes for women and girls across the sport. |

Courage and Confidence to LeadBasketball in Victoria has 160 associations and 434 clubs. Women taking the role of Presidents however are a missing link in the basketball arena representing approximately 34% of our current leaders. Basketball Victoria agrees it is our responsibility to initiate and actively promote change and allow our women an opportunity to aspire and develop to address the challenges women face on our association/club committees. We value the leadership styles and skills of our women volunteers and paid administrators and recognize the importance their contribution makes to basketball but how do we support more to take on higher leadership responsibilities. |
Research tells us that women are unlikely to take on the next step on a Board often due to a lack of confidence and when often combined with self-doubt the result is a severe lack of women in leadership positions in Basketball. The ‘Courage and Confidence to Lead’ program delivered through workshops and a boardroom series, providing an environment for participants to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence to take the next step in taking on higher leadership roles. We encourage female executives, committee members and presidents (who have served six months or less in that position) from basketball associations and clubs across Victoria to apply. The sessions were tailored to harness their strengths as well as giving them access to extensive learning opportunities, high-caliber executive strategies and the tools necessary to further their executive career. |
