Victorian Under-16 teams withdrawn from Australian Junior Championships

With the extended lockdown preventing Victorian teams from interstate travel through September, we have unfortunately had to withdraw our Under-16 State teams from the upcoming Australian Junior Championships in Darwin, Northern Territory from 25 September to 3 October.

We are disappointed to see this age group miss out on the Australian Junior Championships for the second year in a row and look forward to 2022 and returning to the championships as soon as possible.   We continue to explore options and opportunities later in the year for meaningful competition for this group and safely play as selected, allowing development and exposure in front of national coaches.

Basketball Australia has accepted our withdrawal under these difficult circumstances and this decision will not adversely affect our participation in future Australian Junior Championships.

We would like to thank the players, coaches, team staff and families of our four Victorian Under-16 teams. It has been an incredibly difficult time for all involved and we want to acknowledge their commitment and resilience despite the challenges and sacrifices throughout the last two years and we won’t forget their efforts.
