Country Basketball League 2020/2021 team nominations open!

TEAM nominations for the Country Basketball League (CBL) 2020/21 season are now open!

The CBL provides an elite opportunity for Country associations and athletes to compete against one another in the spirit of local competition, celebrating the passion and energy of country sport.

Association representation in the CBhas never been higher with 35 associations featuring in the four conferences of the competition in our last season including 35 male and 25 female teams from across Victoria and South Australia.

“We’re excited to see elite country basketball return for another season of the CBL,” CBL Manager Sammy Cartwright said. “We continue to see talented players from across Victoria and South Australia make their mark on this league and help bring home some well-deserved accolades for their home associations.

“We’ve made great strides in recent years with association involvement, especially with our female teams which increased to 25 across the four conferences in 2019/2020 season.

“If your association is interested in joining the league for the first time or wishes to return after a hiatus, our BDOs can assist in getting your teams and venues ready to compete.

“At this stage we anticipate the CBL 2020/21 season will be able to go ahead without alteration due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we will update the community if any changes to the league, such as fixturing, need to occur.

All team nominations must be submitted by Monday 3 August 2020. To enter your association in this year’s CBL competition, please click the link and fill in our CBL Entry Form.

Our four CBL conferences – Gippsland, South West, North West and North East – help split up Victoria into zones, which provide a local and regionalised competition to help cut down on travel time and costs.

All Basketball Victoria affiliated country associations are eligible to nominate to compete in the Country Basketball League. Nominations may also be accepted from interstate country associations at the discretion of the league.

The CBL is conducted on a home and away basis with each team playing an equal number of home games and away games. The opening round is approximately held at the start of October and the season-ending Conference Finals are held in December (Gippsland) and February (South West, North West and North East) respectively.
