48 VJBL Victorian Championship teams confirmed

The conclusion of Phase One Grading in the 2021 Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) has determined the first 48 teams who will compete in the Victorian Championship tier this competition season.

Victorian Championship, or VC, showcases the highest level of athletes within the junior basketball league as the top division

Junior athletes from the Under-12 to Under-18 age groups commenced their VJBL campaign late January and surged to secure a position in VC over the first three rounds of grading.

Following last Friday night’s games, the first six teams per age group with the best results of grading rejoiced knowing their first goal of the year had been achieved in becoming a 2021 VC competitor.

In this first announcement of VC teams, Melbourne Tigers lead the way with five VC Under-12 to Under-18 representative teams, including their Under18 Boys and Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 Girls.

KeilorDandenongKilsythFrankston and Hawthorn also impressed in Phase One Grading to see four teams each progress through to VC.

VJBL Operations Manager, Adrian Campbell, said the first games of VJBL in 2021 have been truly captivating and highlight the drive for basketball that junior athletes have been holding onto since 2020.

“It is always an impressive achievement for those who work their way into VC through commitment, determination and an overarching drive to play the highest level of basketball on offer,” said Campbell.

“VC is comprised of Victoria’s elite basketballers and highlights the pathway toward Victorian representation and elite senior competitions both nationally with the NBL and WNBL, and internationally with the Australian Boomers and Opals teams.

“The dedication of our VJBL coaches, players, administration and volunteers has been more prominent than ever in the first three weeks of grading, and we can’t wait to continue to see this over the next grading games and into the 2021 season.”

While these 48 teams may take comfort knowing their 2021 VC fate, Phase Two Grading and upcoming Crossover games will determine the final teams who will represent their associations in VC this VJBL season.

Crossover One will be played this Friday 12 February at stadiums across the State. The following week on Friday 19 February, Phase Two grading will commence and see Under-21 teams compete for their places in this 2021 VJBL season.
