Basketball Victoria have unfortunately made the decision to cancel the 2021 National Junior Classic after rescheduling has been unsuccessful.
Due to the uncertainty of interstate travel and the current COVID-19 situation in Victoria and Australia, Basketball Victoria have made the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2021 National Junior Classic.
The 128-team tournament features participants from VJBL VC Divisions, Country Championships winners and interstate teams, and the event was already postponed from the original Queen’s Birthday long weekend (12-14 June, 2021).
A second attempt to run the event was aimed at September 18-20, 2021, however, with the COVID-19 crisis in NSW and the uncertainty of what September restrictions will be in place in Victoria, the difficult decision was made to cancel the event and look forward to planning a greater event in 2022.
“Once again this is a hard decision to make and we feel for all the potential participants and the extended basketball community,” GM – Leagues and Competitions Dean Anglin said.
“Seeing the best of Victorian and Australian club talent come to Melbourne each year for the National Junior Classic is normally a highlight on the calendar and unfortunately two years in a row, circumstances dictate that it cannot happen”.
“Hopefully we get a clean run at it next year and we look forward to seeing this event return bigger and better in 2022.”
