Round 4 of the Championship Men is wrapped up, with some close encounters and teams in the top six continuing their great form into the season!
Camberwell (79) def Western Port (74)
The round started with a thrilling match between Western Port and Camberwell. With the Steelers controlling the first quarter, 28-11, the Dragons took control of the scoring from the second quarter onwards. The Dragons controlled the second half, 28-14 third quarter and 19-15 last quarter to secure the victory.
Both teams had runs of their own, with the Steelers going on a 12-3 run, whilst the Dragons went on a run of their own, 10-4 in the third quarter.
Christopher Elder had an excellent game for the Dragons, 26 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block. Luke Liesegang, 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.
Russell Permenter had an excellent game for the Steelers, 27 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks and one assist.
Shepparton (95) def Bellarine (87)
The Gators secured their third win of the season, defeating the Bellarine Storm by 8 points. With the Storm taking a 7-point lead at quarter time, the Gators shot the lights out in the second quarter, 28-18, shooting at 50% from three-point range. The Gators won the second half, 47-42, going on a 10-7 scoring run in the last quarter to secure the win.
Jayden Coke top scored for the Gators, 21 points, Devin Thomas 17, and Dylan Wilkie, 17 points off the bench.
Kavione Green had a great game for the Storm, top scoring with 30 points.
Keysborough (98) def Blackburn (81)
The Keysborough Cougars led from start to finish, defeating the Vikings by 17 points. The Cougars had a strong start 33-18. Going on a 11-3 run in the first quarter, the Cougars took a 15-point lead at the main break.
The Cougars went on a 24-9 third quarter, extending their lead to 18 points at three quarter time to secure the victory.
Gerrard Newby top scored for the Cougars, 22 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. Anthony Williams, 21 points and James Spencer, 15 points.
James Legan top scored for the Vikings, finishing with 32 points.
McKinnon (109) def Melbourne Uni (79)
The McKinnon Cougars secured their fourth win of the season, defeating Melbourne Uni by 30 points.
After a 31-22 first quarter, the Cougars controlled the second and last quarters to secure the victory.
Shaquille Maharaj top scored for the Cougars, 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Adam Anderson, 17 points and Steve Wooten 16 points.
Ricardo Time finished as the top scorer for the Black Angels with 16 points!
Wyndham (90) def Sunbury (81)
Wyndham continued their undefeated winning streak in season 2024, defeating the Jets by 9 points. With Wyndham leading by 5 points at the main break, the Jets went on a 6-4 scoring third quarter and 11-4 last quarter.
Oskar Jones played a great game for Wyndham, 27 points, Myles Thomas 17 points and Troyce Manassa, 13 points also played a key role in the sides victory.
Joshua Yorke-Frazer and Ray Mitchell top scored for the Jets, finishing with 24 and 17 points respectively.
Wyndham (104) def Western Port (80)
Wyndham completed their road double, defeating the Steelers by 24 points.
Whilst the Steelers won the last quarter, 21-10, Wyndham won the first three quarters, 32-20 second quarter and 34-18 third quarter to secure the victory.
Oskar Jones played an excellent game for Wyndham, finishing with 33 points, shooting at 71% from the field, four assists and two steals.
Troyce Manassa, 13 points and Jovan Bojanic played a role off the bench with 11 points.
Elijah Davy and Liam Ingram top scored for the Steelers, 22 and 20 points respectively.
Hume City (81) def Bellarine (73)
Hume City secured their third win in season 2024, defeating the Bellarine Storm by eight points.
With the Storm taking a three-point lead at quarter time, the Broncos went on an 8-5 scoring run, to level the game at 34-34 at half time.
Whilst the Broncos had a lead of seven during the third quarter, the Storm took the third quarter, 27-26 to take a one-point lead at three quarter time.
The Broncos won the last quarter, 21-12 off a 10-4 scoring run to secure the victory.
Scottie Stone, 24 points, Malik McKinney, 21 and Keenan Gorski, 13 points top scored for the Broncos.
Sunbury (76) def Keysborough (73)
The Jets secured their third win of the season, defeating Keysborough by 3 in an entertaining match. With the Cougars going into the quarter time break up by four points, the Jets controlled the second quarter, 29-14, going on a 10-5 run. Whilst the Cougars controlled the third quarter, 24-18, some crucial stops and baskets from the Jets in the last quarter was enough to secure the win.
Joshua Yorke-Frazer was on song from both ends of the floor, 27 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals!
Joel Coffey provided a spark off the bench, 12 points and Benjamin Robertson, 12 points.
Gerrard Newby top scored for the Cougars with 18 points.
Pakenham (88) def Shepparton (75)
In a high scoring match throughout all four quarters, the Warriors secured their third win of the season, defeating the Gators by 13 points.
The Warriors shot the ball at a high volume from two-point range, shooting at 58 %, also dominating the points in the paint, 46-34.
Malik Colvin-Seldom finished as the top scorer for the Warriors, 21 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Joe Davis also played his role, 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
Jayden Coke finished as the top scorer for the Gators with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
