Vickerman and York coming to BIRVC18

FRESH silverware and the pursuit of high-calibre coaching opportunities will be high on the agenda at #BIRVC18 with Melbourne United’s NBL Championship winning coach Dean Vickerman returning to his country roots alongside Adelaide 36ers assistant coach Tracey York.

With decorated coaches Vickerman and York set to join the ‘Basketball in Regional Victoria Conference 2018’ (BIRVC18) schedule, there’s even more reason to sign up for this FREE conference on 23-24 June in Bendigo.

York and Vickerman will speak on the Saturday night at the Conference Dinner to discuss the high-calibre strategies and tactics you can bring back to any level of basketball throughout the country. Their expertise, insights and passion for grassroots basketball make their speeches at the Conference Dinner a must-attend event.

Someone who knows just how far a journey through country basketball can take you, Vickerman rose through the country ranks as a BVC Jamboree coach, before he went on to work for Basketball Victoria as a development officer. From there he made the next move in his glittering career as he went to lead Basketball Geelong as his coaching career started to take off.

Vickerman’s trajectory skyrocketed after heading to New Zealand to be part of the Breakers’ NBL coaching staff.  He was part of championship winning sides as an assistant coach before getting his own chance as head coach in 2013 and went on to lead the side to the 2014/15 NBL championship. Eventually he returned to Victoria, via the Sydney Kings, where he has now helped Melbourne United claim its maiden NBL title in 2017/18.

Tracey York has done it all in a storied career on and off the court. She has been the Adelaide Lightning’s WNBL head coach before getting an opportunity this season to be a part of Joey Wright’s coaching staff at the Adelaide 36ers NBL men’s team.

She served as the Technical Director of the Basketball Association of Singapore while working with the Singapore Slingers during their time in the NBL. Throughout it all York has been a passionate contributor to Basketball South Australia’s state teams – having started coaching in the state program in 1990.

“Dean Vickerman and Tracey York are brilliant contributors to all levels of Australian basketball and we’re excited to have them speak at the Basketball in Regional Victoria Conference this year,” BVC manager David Huxtable said. “They have risen through the ranks –  from grassroot basketball up to the NBL – and achieved some amazing accolades between them along the way.

“York and Vickerman are fantastic supporters of country basketball and great sources of basketball knowledge, so make sure you attend to hear their speeches at BIRVC18.”

With passion from the first step on court all the way through to the greatest achievements our game can offer, York and Vickerman will give our guests some fantastic insights to cap off an exceptional day one of the conference.
