This Girl Can Week 2019

It’s time to get up, get involved and get active! This week is ‘This Girl Can Week’ and a year on after the campaign begun, over 285,000 women across Victoria have become more active!

This Girl Can Week is dedicated to inspiring women of all fitness levels to get active, whether trying something new or returning to an activity after a break. This Girl Can is about giving it a go; no matter how well you do it, how you look, or how sweaty you get.

So if you have been looking for a new avenue or adventure to get out and get active, now is the perfect time to do so!

Basketball Victoria has teamed up with VicHealth and a few of our associations who are running a number of different female only activities throughout the week to help you kick start your activity.

So what are you waiting for? Grab a friend or two and come along to one (or more) of the below activations:


Ladies Daytime Social Basketball

Where: Horsham Basketball Stadium
McPherson St, Horsham, Victoria 3400

When: Monday 18th March 1-2pm

As part of This Girl Can Week 2019 the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly and the Horsham Amateur Basketball Association are running a Ladies Daytime Social Basketball session.

Ideal for anyone wanting to improve their fitness, fill in some time, for social connections or return to physical activity.

No basketball experience required.

Join us after the session for a coffee and morning tea.

Women’s Day Basketball

Where: Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre
49-51 Houston St, Stawell, Victoria 3380

When: Monday 18th March 1-3pm

On Monday, March 18th 2019 Stawell Women’s Day Basketball Club will be participating in the ‘This Girl Can Week 2019’.

We are a child friendly basketball club and encourage inclusion in a fun, social environment. We provide a place for women to come and play basketball regardless of skill level and experience.

Members & groups from the wider community also attend and support us each week.

We will be running our basketball games from 1.00-2.30pm and invite the people in our community to come along and see what our competition is about.

During the day we invite everyone to participate in creating a ‘This Girl Can’ wall display highlighting what we’re capable of.

In recognition of International Women’s Day & “This Girl Can” Week…

The Marcellin Eagles Basketball Club (MEBC) want girls to enjoy playing sport, in a fun and inclusive environment.

This is an invitation to ALL GIRLS to bring someone they care about (including mum, aunty, older sister, babysitter, grandma, female carer etc.) and have a laugh and a dribble in the name of basketball.

Skills will be learnt, fun will be had, memories will be made… so come on down!

VicHealth is presenting “This Girl Can Week”, held from 18-24 March.

Broadmeadows Basketball is encouraging young girls to get active and engaged in exercise.

This Girl Can – Victoria is about giving it a go and getting active; no matter how well you do it, how you look, or how sweaty you get.

Come and have a go at the Girls only Skill Sessions! Friday 4.30pm-5.30pm (only $5 for the session)!

Ladies Shootaround

Wallan Basketball is jumping on board with the #ThisGirlCanVIC campaign in conjunction with VicHealth and Basketball Victoria.

We would like to invite all female players in the area, whether you are an avid basketball player or are thinking about stepping onto the court for the first time!

Join the Wallan Panthers Big V senior women’s team for a ‘Shoot Around’ before their first home game in season 2019.

Our girls will be excited to jump on Court One and show them that #ThisGirlCan


3 on 3 Social

When: Saturday 23rd March 5:30-6:30pm

A fun filled, fabulous, five-forty slot on March 23rd to play 3×3.

Make up a team of four females.

At least one player must be 25+.

The youngest player/s in your team must be eligible to play Westgate U16s

This event is for our Westgate registered female players, referees, and families. Refreshments to follow!

Ladies Day

Where: Blackburn Vikings
Slater Reserve, Grosvenor Street, Blackburn, Victoria,  3130

When: Sunday 24th March 4-5pm

To celebrate This Girl Can week, Blackburn Vikings are hosting a “Ladies Day” on Sunday 24th March from 4pm to 5pm at Slater Reserve

All our female players, mums, carers and supporters are invited to participate in a fun and social basketball & fitness session, to promote activity and raise funds to support the Cancer Council. No basketball experience required, running from 4pm to 5pm, followed by afternoon tea in the meeting room.

A gold coin donation entry fee will be matched by the club and donated to the Cancer Council.

Come on down to Slater Reserve this Sunday for a fun filled afternoon of skills, laughs and make some great memories with your loved ones!

Female Training Session

Where: Mullum Mullum Stadium

When: Sunday 24th March 4-5pm

During #ThisGirlCanVIC Week the Park Orchards Steelers Basketball Club are running a female training session at Mullum Mullum Stadium in Donvale for all local females to come out and get active by playing basketball!

Everyone is welcome of absolutely all ages, head to Mullum Mullum Stadium at 4pm this Sunday the 24th of March and take part in basketball activities.
