Victoria’s National Basketball League (NBL) team, Melbourne United, has signed a three-year deal to become a major partner of Basketball Victoria.
This new partnership will not only see Melbourne United stand alongside Basketball Victoria in the community, but it will also establish Melbourne United as an active participant in the development and nurturing of the sport at the grassroots level through to the professional ranks.
Basketball Victoria and McDonald’s have a 33-year partnership history, one of the longest running sports sponsorships in Australia. As our Official Grassroots Support Partner, McDonald’s will be providing basketballs to schools and community basketball clubs to encourage inclusive participation and an active lifestyle.

Basketball Victoria receives generous support from VicHealth through the Participation in Community Sport and Recreation (PICSAR) program. The PICSAR program assists Basketball Victoria in being able to introduce, develop and maintain programs for participants with a disability so that they may become involved in basketball through playing, coaching, refereeing and volunteering. The program also assists with the education of the basketball community in inclusion through the delivery of adaptive coaching workshops, and training of board members and staff, to name a few activities. Through this partnership Basketball Victoria has been able to establish the VicHealth Cup, a statewide tournament that is run through Special and Special Developmental Schools throughout Victoria.

The Sports Development Program is a joint initiative between Basketball Victoria and SEDA, specifically designed for young people who would like to pursue a career in the sport and recreation industry or other like industries. If you are a year 10, 11 or 12 student you can complete your VCE, VCAL and Certificates III and IV in Sport and Recreation leading to a Diploma of Sport Development. Core curriculum involves theoretical and practical experience in sports administration, marketing, fitness, coaching, event/project management, literacy, numeracy and career planning.

In recognition of the increasing number of Australian basketballers who are looking to further their basketball careers in the US college system, Basketball Victoria are pleased to have partnered with leading college scouting servicer CCR.
In conjunction with CCR, Basketball Victoria will be conducting a number of basketball trials throughout the year to help identify athletes that possess the potential to play in the US college system. With no previous partnerships in this category, Basketball Victoria felt it was important to partner with agencies that are NCAA accredited and can equip our athletes with the tools and the knowledge to make the right decision when selecting a program. We look forward to working alongside CCR to help ensure a positive and successful experience for those athletes that aspire to play their sport of choice while obtaining a quality college education.
