Melbourne United and Victorian teams go back to college

WATCHING the next generation of American college talent… at your local Victorian stadium.

That’s a fairly good deal right?

With the US colleges on the tour across August, it gives plenty of Victorian fans a chance to see the likes of Wisconsin, TCU and Oklahoma State come out to battle our local best.

In years gone by we’ve been lucky to see NBA number one draft pick and #TeamVic superstar Ben Simmons, ANOTHER NBA number one draft pick Markelle Fultz and number two pick Lonzo Ball tour the state and take on the best of Victoria. This time around the Americans will bring their best to take on the Victorians.

They’re taking on a wide array of sides from Big V, SEABL and Victoria’s NBL team – Melbourne United.

Melbourne United will square off against Texas University on 15 August at Nunawading to start off their pre-season campaign.

United will then head out to Casey Stadium on 20 August to christen the newly renovated complex with a mega-clash against Wisconsin.

With the recently announced super-clash against Oklahoma City Thunder on 9 October ahead of the NBL season, these clashes will prove a great way to kick off 2017/18 for the boys in black.

CEO Vince Crivelli was looking forward to taking the two college clashes back to grassroots basketball in Victoria.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to bring the NBL back to our local associations, and for fans to see some of the up and coming talent coming through the College basketball system,” Crivelli said. “For the last couple of seasons we’ve played in Ballarat, and while saw tremendous support from regional Victoria, it’s exciting for our local fans to see some games in metropolitan Melbourne again.

“Nunawading and Casey are premium grassroots partners of the club, so it’s a great way for us to give back for all that they contribute.”

It’s the next big event for recently renovated Casey Stadium, following on from the Big V Origin All Star Series clashes held in June.

Frankston Blues have just announced a clash against the Victoria-laden Eastern Washington Eagles with Felix Von Hofe, Geremy McKay, Jesse Hunt, Michael Wearne and Mason Peatling lining up for the visitors.
