Melbourne Boomers Announce Six Development Players

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers has completed its season 2016/17 roster with the announcement of six development players.

The return of Kasey Burton (Ballarat), Chloe Molloy (Seymour/Eltham/Nunawading) and Genna Ogier (Seymour/Eltham/Kilsyth) will be complemented by debutants Emma Nankervis (Frankston), Cassidy Gould (Altona) and Chelsea D’Angelo (Latrobe City).

In making the announcement, Coach Guy Molloy said he was excitingly pleased with the overall level of talent involved during a three-week tryout process.

“The coaching staff was delighted with such a deep level of talent across the more than forty players who attended the tryouts, it really made it a tough task for us to arrive at these six players,” said Molloy.

“Our focus is on finding and developing potential future WNBL players, it is a role we take very seriously and I’m pleased we have put a thorough and rewarding program in place at the Boomers. Rarely a week goes by where our key staff and coaches at the club aren’t out there looking at players.”

The final 17-player Boomers squad is represented by no less than 12 Victorian Basketball Associations, a result that General Manager Justin Nelson says is further evidence the Boomers truly represent Melbourne and other areas around Australia’s premier basketball state.

“The Boomers possess a very strong focus on developing and showcasing Victorian players, especially from across Melbourne,” said Nelson, adding “The work carried out by Basketball Victoria, along with Associations and Clubs should be highly commended, they are producing outstanding young talent for us to look at and promote into the WNBL,“ said Nelson.

“With our final squad now in place I urge everyone across Melbourne to support this great team, we are representing all of the Associations and Clubs, and we need your support. Become Boomers members, you’ll love being a part of something special and I know the players will appreciate that support as well.”
