What is Inclusion?
Inclusion is about sport, physical activity, choice and opportunity. Inclusion is about helping more people from all parts of the community, become physically active and participate in basketball – at any level. Inclusion contains many aspects, including adapting basketball to meet the requirements of the participants. This is things like relaxing the uniform codes for participants who cannot afford the correct uniforms, or allowing head dress for participants from different cultures. It also includes providing opportunities for both participants with a disability that can allow integration into the mainstream programs organised by the club.
Inclusion also relates to how a club carries out its day to day business. This relates to things such as membership categories, upskilling staff and representatives of the club, such as court managers, referees, volunteers etc on best practice of dealing with members of the community from minority and wider portions of the community.
Basketball Victoria offers training for volunteers, coaches, administrators and parents on inclusion. For more information, please contact Matthew Dunstan on (03) 9927 6666 or email matthew.dunstan@basketballvictoria.com.au
