Hawks snare Sturt’s signature

The Ringwood Hawks have wasted no time since their Elite League announcement in adding a key piece to their roster with the signing of former NBL player Adrien Sturt.

Sturt is no stranger to the Hawks having been a member of the 2012 State Championship winning team before moving to England and playing in the British Basketball League for the Plymouth Raiders and London Lions. Last season Sturt played for the Waverley Falcons but always considered Ringwood his home and jumped at the chance to return.

“Ringwood has always felt like home to me,” Sturt said.

“It’s good to be back amongst the guys as we prepare for another great challenge.”

At 6’10 and with incredibly long arms, Sturt provides a rare set of skills that the Hawks will be looking to take full advantage of. He is well known for his athleticism but he also boasts a lethal three point shot and a quick first step. Hawks Coach Ken Harrington plans on putting his latest signing in the position he will be most effective.

“We will play him in the small forward spot (3 spot) as much as we can, he is so dangerous on the perimeter,” Harrington said.

“He also provides us some much needed help at the defensive end of the court, we are pretty excited to have him back.”

Sturt will join the core of the Hawks team that has committed to take on the new challenge after dominating the Big V over the past 10 years. The Hawks hope to announce import signings over the next few weeks with the teams pre-season starting late January.
