The Champions Cup is Basketball Victoria’s elite schools tournament. The tournament is for government, independent and private schools across all sporting associations, meaning the best of the best compete against each other regardless their affiliations.
Teams nominated from the state compete to take the undisputed state title in their respective age divisions. For the Senior Division, the Champions Cup is also used as the Victorian qualifier for the Australian Schools Championships in December.
Schools can nominate teams to compete in this elite tournament with only the top 24 teams from each age group qualifying for the Preliminary Round. Team lists are provided by schools to help determine the ranking of teams to decide the top 24.
The tournament is conducted in a tiered round robin format with Senior, Intermediate and Junior divisions on separate days in August. The top 8 teams from each division then advance to the Elite Eight round.
The Elite Eight round comprise the top eight teams split into 2 pools and a round robin is played to determine the Final Four. The Final Four then play off against each other to qualify for the two spots in the State Championship Final. Teams are ranked based on their preliminary round performance.
The Finals Day is held at the end of Term 3. It has been a great success over the past six years, with many parents and schoolmates attending and getting behind their team.
